Fun Fact

Amsterdam is so bike friendly that there are more bikes than cars. With all those bikes stacked on canals and streets, an average of 10,000 bikes are fished out of the Amsterdam canals every year.

Transportation

Getting There – Norwegian Air – a great airline to get from the USA to the Caribbean or Europe. This airline is a temptress during off season because the sales will have you booking a flight faster than you can ask for time off. (NYC => AMS $320 R/T)

Getting Around – The best and most popular ways to get around the city are by bike or foot. There are a lot of bike rentals in the city or you can ask your hotel, it’s about 8-10 euros a day.  Luckily, If you want to just take the trains to get around you can buy an Amsterdam Travel Ticket for 1-3 days ($17-30). Its a pretty cheap way to get around and you can even get rides to and from the airport!

Accomodation

If you want to be close to the city but still need some peace, this hotel is a great choice. Located right next to Vondelpark, you can take a nice walk around the park or a leisurely bike ride to the city. There are also some great perks like a free glass of at the restaurant, solar panels for the environmentally conscious, and a cafe that serves fresh pastries downstairs.  What’s not to love?

Day 2 - History & Views

  • Anne Frank Housethe hiding place of Anne Frank and other families running from the Nazis
  • Electric LadyLand – a museum of florescent art that will fill you with psychedelic love vibes
  • Amsterdam Oersoep – a passageway full of aquatic art
  • A’DAM Toren – observation deck with panoramic views of the city and a crazy high swing for any daredevils. 
  • Oude Kirk – a church in the middle of the red light district that is full of amazing history and architecture – play then pray!
  • Dam Square – the biggest square in the city full of markets, bars, cafes and restaurants

DAy 3 - Take a Trip

There are some amazing cities that are definitely worth the trip
  • Zaanse Schans – Enjoy historic houses, hand crafted shops  and windmills as you roam by bike or boat
  • Volendam & Marken – Escape to the countryside and enjoy local markets, endlesses cheeses, and clog crafting 
  • Keukenhof & Tulip Gardens – The Netherlands is known for colorful tulips and their isn’t a better place to get a postcard worthy picture

Day 4 - Canals & Canvas

  • Botanical Gardens – stop and smell the tulips
  • The Museum Het Rembrandthuis – historic art museum where Rembrandt lived and worked 
  • Canal Belt – lining the canals are beautiful houses, cozy cafes and unique bridges – take a canal cruise & enjoy the sites
  • Huis Marseille – a museum of contemporary photography in case you get tired of canvas and paint
  • Liedpein – a transportation hub buzzing with nightlife & shopping

Eat It & Weep

Whether you need a hangover cure or a full stomach for a day of site seeing, this is a really nice place to start the day. With brunch classics like omelettes and Bloody Mary’s you’ll feel right at home. There are 3 locations and one of them is on a boat!

Indonesia was once a Dutch territory which means there is a lot of influence on the cuisine. Some of the most popular dishes are the chicken satay, spekkoek (spiced cake) and Rijstafel which is a variety of small dishes and rices.
